Overview The need for an informed, engaged civic leadership to address the issues of this region has never been greater. To help address this need, the Cleveland Leadership Center has built the Civic Leadership Institute – an educational program series that exposes participants, in a short period, to a comprehensive view of our region’s social, economic, business and political issues.

Format Program attendees participate in a series of six sessions (2-hours each) over several months. Each session is a building block and provides incremental learning from the prior session. Individuals who are involved in civic matters at the highest level lead the sessions, which include networking, keynote presentation, question and answer and small group discussions. All sessions have the following agenda:

Who Should Attend?
The Civic Leadership Institute welcomes any individual who has an interest in learning about and/or becoming engaged in civic issues impacting our region. There is no application process. Tuition is $500 for the series.

Session 1: September 14th, 2010 - The Evolution of Our Region’s Economy: Learn how the history, demographics, geography and diverse cultures of Cleveland have shaped its economic base and will impact its future. Presenter: Dr. John Grabowski, Professor, Case Western Reserve University and Director of Research, Western Reserve Historical Society
Session 2: September 28th, 2010 – The Region’s Economy: Deepen your understanding of the region’s current economic climate and strategies to achieve growth and competition. Presenter: Dr. Ned Hill, Dean of the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University
Session 3: October 13th, 2010 – Understanding the Civic Infrastructure: Learn about the key civic organizations in the region that are driving the civic agenda, including strategies and priorities for advancing Northeast Ohio.
