CLC - Successful Merger; Catalyst for Change
The Cleveland Leadership Center was born out of a merger of four civic leadership development organizations in July 2006. These organizations, Leadership Cleveland, Cleveland Bridge Builders, Look Up To Cleveland and (i)Cleveland, continue to live on as program offeringsof CLC.
In 2009, Cleveland Leadership Center created the Civic Leadership Institute – a condensed, fast-paced, six-week civic education series that is offered each winter, spring and fall.
The Look Up To Cleveland Summer Leadership Academy (now known as Look Up Summer) was created in 2011 to offer the Look Up To Cleveland program to high school students in the summer.
Also in recent years, (i)Cleveland has added additional programming to reach college students throughout the year, including through a one-day Winter Edition, and a service break program offered during school breaks and can be customized to an individual college’s schedule. In 2014, CLC piloted On-Board Cleveland, a leadership development and civic awareness program for early-stage professionals. On-Board will continue as a pilot program in 2015.
Additional pilot programs to target civic engagement opportunities for specific demographics have included Cleveland Executive Fellowship (2007), a comprehensive, intergenerational leadership program; and Civic Engagement Boot Camp (2012), a one-day immersion program to get people thinking about Cleveland and civic engagement in new ways.
In addition to its programs, CLC offers a robust portfolio of offerings to identify, strengthen, and deploy civic leadership across multiple generations and sectors. The unique offerings of the Leadership Center and the CLC Alumni Association provide multiple opportunities for education, connectivity and engagement for aspiring, emerging and established leaders — individuals at all ages and stages.
In September 2014, CLC adopted a strategic plan to guide its focus on building a continuum of civic leaders who are inspired to improve our region. The plan, which offers a 10-year-vision as well as three-year strategic priorities, grew out of CLC’s recognition that the organization can build on its strengths and target strategic areas to ensure even more success in the future.
