Stokes Civic Leadership Institute

A partnership of leaders in the spirit of the Stokes Brothers

In recognition of the powerful legacy of Carl and Louis Stokes, Cleveland Leadership Center and Cuyahoga Community College present the Stokes Civic Leadership Institute. A highly selective program for established and rising leaders, Stokes Civic Leadership Institute will provide insight into critical problems facing our community and will challenge participants (Stokes Fellows) to develop the collaborative skill set needed to address these issues. The Stokes Fellows will have the opportunity to engage in continuing civic education beyond the conclusion of the program.

Participation

Cleveland Leadership Center and Cuyahoga Community College will work jointly to recruit 40 rising leaders to participate in the Stokes Civic Leadership Institute through a highly selective application process. Twenty senior level leaders were invited previously to participate as Senior Fellows.

The fellowship
Stokes Civic Leadership Institute will run from September 2017 through June 2018. The Stokes Project policy papers are the foundation of the curriculum and will include the areas of education, workforce development, housing, health and public safety.

     October-February
Formalized, monthly learning sessions in the issue areas.

     March-June
Advancing solutions to the problems identified.

During the second half of the program, fellows will work closely with the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Humanities Center and its scholars to design and deliver forums to educate the larger community on the issues studied and to guide understanding of how the community can collaborate on solutions.
