Supporting victims of gun violence: An antifragility initiative

Dr. Barksdale discussed the circumstances, statistics, and experiences that led to the creation of the Antifragility Initiative at University Hospitals. He shared his perspective on gun violence as a public health issue and how the program uses a wholistic approach to not just treating victims but to break the cycle of violence.

Paul shared what’s on tap for the Guardians and Progressive Field. He recapped last season and shared a look ahead for the current season, including the bright spots they’re anticipating, He discussed the changes to the MLB rules and how they’re impacting the game so far. He also spoke about the future of the franchise and Progressive Field, including some of the updates fans can expect over the next couple of years. Curtis talked about Opening Day and the fan experience this year.

Using Smart Technology to Monitor our Water and Manage Public Health Concerns

Ebie provided an overview of the Cleveland Water Alliance and their programs and the Lake Erie Watershed. She discussed the need for “smart” 21st-century infrastructure, what that means, and the challenges to its adoption. She discussed the infrastructure they’ve built so far and the challenges it is currently helping to address, as well as the goals for the future.

Joe talked about immigration in our region, both historically and now and provided an overview of Global Cleveland – what they do, who they serve, and why. He discussed the contributions of immigrants and refugees to Northeast Ohio, and how their work is helping address Cleveland’s talent shortage.

Marcie gave a brief history of the Cleveland International Film Festival and provided an overview of this year’s festival. She previewed and shared trailers for both of CLC’s Partner films, Join or Die and Olympic Oaks Continuing Jesse Owens’ Legacy. She discussed how the decide which films will be featured each year and shared her vision for the festival over the next handful of years.
