Look Up To Cleveland
Look Up To Cleveland is open to high school juniors for the school-year program. The LookUp Summer Program accepts students who will be juniors or seniors in the fall.
Admission is through a selective application process for students who have demonstrated leadership ability, participated in school/community organizations and clubs, exhibited academic soundness, shown self-reliance and independence, and are able to take initiative. Students in the school-year program need school and parental approval to participate.
Please note: Applications for the LookUp Class of 2016 are no longer being accepted. Please check back next spring for details of LookUp Summer, a one-week session offered both in June and July which provides many of the same opportunities as Look Up To Cleveland. Applications will be available late next summer for the LookUp Class of 2017.
The Class of 2016 will meet in full-day (8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) sessions on the following dates:
- Sunday & Monday, Oct. 25-26: Overnight retreat
- Thursday, Nov. 12: Government Day
- Thursday, Dec. 3: Arts & Culture
- Wednesday, Jan. 13: Economy & Entrepreneurship
- Wednesday, Feb. 10: Neighborhood
- Tuesday, March 8: Vision
- Tuesday, April 26: Civic Vision & Commencement
Sessions take place in and around downtown Cleveland and its neighborhoods. Students will have the opportunity to visit with leaders in the government, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
All session days begin and end in locations accessible by public transit; Greater Cleveland RTA passes are available to students who request them. Travel between sites during each day is by foot or chartered bus.
Students must commit to arriving on time and attending all sessions. Light breakfast, snacks and a full lunch are included in each program day.
LookUp during the school year is offered at no charge to students, thanks to generous support from local corporate and family foundations, and individuals. The LookUp Summer program has a modest fee, with the majority of the cost similarly underwritten by generous donors.
