Jill shared background on the Ohio Debate Commission (ODC), what they do, and how they involve people in the voting process, and how they help voters make decisions. She also discussed the candidates reluctance to take part in debates, the interest of the younger generations in the election process and debates, as well as what’s on the horizon for ODC.

She detailed the structure of the organization, the individuals involved, and how they are tackling the monumental task of transforming the current state of racial equity in Cleveland into the desired state of racial equity.

Rajzia shared the visions, goals, and top issues for Councilwoman Howse’s ward (Ward 7) and Jessica shared some of the city’s biggest challenges. They discusses what it’s like to work alongside the new administration, the collaborative effort between the Council office and the Mayor’s staff on how to spend the ARPA funds, and their hopes for the Council moving forward. They also shared ways people can stay informed of Council and ward happenings.

Public health in CLE: where are we now?
Dr. David Margolius , Director of Public Health, City of Cleveland
Dr. Margolius shared his background as well as an overview of Cleveland’s Public Health Department and the scope of their work. He shared some of the major public health issues facing our community (smoking, lead poisoning, traffic deaths, opioids, etc.). He also talked about where we stand with COVID and the vaccine distribution for monkeypox.
