The Cleveland Leadership Center has selected a new class of diverse leaders from a wide variety of public companies, private business enterprises, nonprofit and public-sector institutions to participate in the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2018.
Leadership Cleveland is an intensive 10-month program that empowers recognized, senior-level leaders with additional knowledge, skills and relationships to advance and deepen their community impact. It engages participants in opportunities to address community issues through collaborative civic leadership while developing a broader and more diverse set of relationships among peers. Class members are selected through a highly competitive and selective application process.
“Leadership Cleveland is one of CLC’s array of offerings that fulfills our mission to build a continuum of civic leaders committed to our community’s excellence,” said CLC Board Co-Chair Ira Kaplan, Partner and Executive Chairman of Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff LLP and an alumnus of the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2003. “Leadership Cleveland classmates and graduates take active roles in being forces for positive and sustainable change in our region.”
The class was selected through a competitive application process that began in February. “We were delighted to see a deep applicant pool consistent with the level of prior Leadership Cleveland applications,” said Larry Oscar, who Co-Chaired the Leadership Cleveland Selection Committee and is also CLC Board Co-Chair. “Cleveland’s strength is in the individuals who want to take their civic education and leadership to new levels and have an even greater impact on Cleveland,” said Oscar, who is a Partner at Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP and alumnus of the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2009.
The program year begins with a 2½-day retreat in September 2017. A civically themed session day each month thereafter is built around a highly interactive curriculum featuring other civic, political and business leaders. A class trip in May 2018 allows participants to learn from successful civic engagement programs elsewhere around the country.
After a commencement ceremony in June 2018, the graduates join more than 2,000 other community leaders who have completed the program in its past 40 years, and more than 7,000 graduates of Cleveland Leadership Center programs.
Many Leadership Cleveland alumni continue their involvement for a second year as LC2 Fellows to engage in an outcome-driven project that leaves a legacy for Northeast Ohio.
